Local Internet Startup Launches New Consumer-driven Shopping Engine
Austin, TX—Austin–based PriceFight recently launched PriceFight.com, a shopping search engine designed to help consumers quickly search, compare and select the best products from the most credible retailers. The project, which has been underway for seven months, launched just in time for the holiday shopping season.
PriceFight's development team consists of two UT Austin doctoral students and a recent UT graduate. "PriceFight was built for a generation of shoppers who want quick, accurate answers," says PriceFight founder, Michael Griffin. "Because lowest price doesn't always correlate with best value, our aim is to help shoppers make educated shopping decisions based on the criteria most important to them."
PriceFight differentiates itself from its competitors by offering more transparent shopping. Rather than allowing retailers to pay for inclusion and a high ranking, PriceFight sorts results by a new metric called "People's Choice," which is based on purchase rates and customer ratings.
"Our goal is to strengthen customer confidence, reward ethical retailers, and make advertising more accountable," says Griffin. "By prioritizing the interests of online shoppers, PriceFight aims to be the most consumer-friendly shopping engine on the Web."
Shortly after its launch, PriceFight was featured on TechCrunch, the industry's leading blog dedicated to profiling emerging Internet startups. As a result of the company's recent success, PriceFight has generated a surge of new users and has relocated from the college apartment where it was founded to new offices in Austin's North Loop district.
Immediately after the launch, PriceFight drove more than 12,000 page views a day. As a result of the company's recent success, PriceFight has generated a new surge of dedicated users eager to search, compare, and select the best products from the Web's most credible retailers.
